The JetKids BedBox

BedBox in Blue c/o JetKids

If you’ve been keeping up with me on Instagram you saw that we traveled all over Italy, flew back to Atlanta then headed to Naples and Sarasota, Florida, for some extended family time. So after almost a month of traveling, we are finally home!

We’ve unpacked, finished laundry and I feel like I can now share with you how we survived international travel with a 22 month old. Knowing our flight times were reaching into the double digits, I reached out to JetKids about purchasing their BedBox product. I had seen the BedBox in a magazine a while back and after a quick instagram search I decided this was something we HAD to have! For those that aren’t familiar, BedBox is a ride on suitcase for kids that turns their normal airplane seat into a comfortable bed where they can relax or sleep and, as you can tell from Henry’s pictures, it worked great! Inside the suitcase you’ll find a foam mattress and side cushions plus extra room to pack a few of your kid’s favorite things. We were able to fit two blankets, two stuffed animals, pajamas and a change of clothes into the suitcase. The top of the suitcase pops off and turns over and extends to create the base for the BedBox and was super easy to set up even mid flight. After getting the BedBox in place, Henry instantly seemed happier to have a little more room for activities and I was happy that it discouraged him from wanting to climb all around the floor. Once we were settled in and overcame the general struggle of having a toddler on a plane (that should be a scary movie right?! Toddlers On A Plane… yikes!) Henry slept 7 hours out of the 8.5 hour flight. To say we were impressed was an understatement. Not only did the BedBox make it easy for Henry to fall asleep, it also made the rest of the flight enjoyable for us (and every other passenger on our flight!) On the return, Henry only slept 2.5 out of the 10 hour plane ride home but I’m not blaming JetKids. He still loved having his space to spread out and as far as 22 month olds go, he was very well behaved for the remainder of the flight. #proudparent

In addition to using the BedBox on the plane, we also used it on our 4 hour train ride from Venice to Rome. Henry didn’t sleep, but he enjoyed having his own place to settle into and watch movies. He also loved pushing it through the train stations and airports and provided him with some entertainment as we waited to board. Having said that, we felt there were a few design flaws that could have made it easier on parents when their kids weren’t riding or pushing the BedBox around. The carrying strap that is included never stayed secure when we adjusted it. We ended up having to knot the strap at two ends to make sure it would stay in place as we carried it through the airport. The other improvement we would suggest is to make the mattress cover with a zipper closure for a machine washing option. Currently it is suggested to hand-wash the mattress and lay flat, which I totally understand if you’re not near a washing machine, but with some of the spills we had, hand washing just didn’t get it clean. I ended up having to cut open the mattress cover, remove the foam padding and machine wash the cover..

The BedBox is priced at $200, but if you travel regularly with your kids, we definitely think it’s worth the investment. After all, I’m not sure you can put a price on a happy toddler… or his parents!

D.C Adventures

We had a whirlwind of a weekend in D.C with my husband’s side of the family but it was so much fun and I still cant believe some of the things we got to do and see. My brother in-law works on Capitol Hill and my sister-in-law works at the White House so between the two of them we had some pretty incredible experiences! If you don’t want to read about what we did you can scroll to the bottom to shop what I wore throughout the weekend.

We kicked of our weekend with a private tour of the Capitol which included a visit to Speaker Ryan’s balcony which over looks the National Mall and Washington Monument. We also got a peak inside GOP House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s office. One of my favorite Americana artists is Steve Penley and several of his works were in McCarthy’s office. My favorite was President Lincoln which sits behind his desk. I also loved the gigantic painting in their meeting room called Delaware- the only way they could get it into the building was through a window! After our Capitol tour the cousins were able to visit Vice President Pence’s office. We weren’t allowed to take any pictures but it was incredible to see where he works and small details like his desk phone which has speed dials such as the Situation Room, Oval Office and Royal Crown. We were also planning on seeing the West Wing, but due to August Renovations, we weren’t able to go in. We took a walk along the drive way and made small talk with some Secret Service guys!  We did get to visit the White House during after hours and were able to go bowling in the Truman Bowling Alley. It was a bucket list experience that I didn’t even know should be on my bucket list! It was so much fun and to be in the same space as past presidents and congressional leaders was so amazing.

On Saturday we took a public tour of the White House and it was wonderful to get a peak inside such a historical house. If you’re ever in the D.C area I highly recommend it!

We ended our weekend with Sunday Brunch and celebrating the life of Erik’s Aunt and Uncle Monday Morning. They were laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery and it was a remarkable service. So incredible to see all the men and women who gave their lives for our country and it truly gives you a whole new perspective of how blessed we are to live in a country with such freedoms. This is another must visit place if you’re ever in the area!

Miami Swim Week {fave looks}

Gottex

Dress & Shoes / Michelle: Top, Denim,  Shoes / Niki: Dress, Shoes, Earrings

It’s been a week since we went to Miami and I’m finally sharing my favorites! I loved the Duskii show because the suites were so practical and I felt like you could wear them right off the runway. My other favorite show was Frankie’s Bikinis because of how crazy their suits were {like this teddy bear bikini above… crazy right?!} I didn’t want to look away from the runway because I was afraid I’d miss something insane! The Sport’s Illustrated show was also a blast since it was the launch of their very first swimwear line which included plus sizes. We had front row seats for the show and got a pretty amazing swag bag too! {this Playa spray is amazing and these Diff sunnies are so cute and for a great cause} I linked some suites from each designer below including a few that were featured! Niki from The Andi’s List is also sharing photos from the Gottex show over on her blog today. Check it out to see more amazing suits!

MIA Travel Look

Top: Lilly Pulitzer / Denim: Madewell / Shoes: Keds / Watch: Michele { face band } / Luggage: Louis Vuitton

Just got back from a girls weekend in Miami for Swim Week and we had such a fun time! The shows were amazing and I cant wait to share my favorite suites with y’all! I rode over with Niki from The Andi’s List and our friend Clarissa. I wanted to make sure I was super comfortable so I defaulted to my favorite jeans from Madewell and kept my look simple with a white tee from Lilly Pulitzer. I love this tee because its slightly longer in the back and not tight fitting like some other t-shirts can be {it also comes in two other colors}. I found these slip ons from Nordstrom Rack a few months back and couldn’t believe how amazing they were. They’re under $35 I love how I can wear them with anything. I packed everything in my Louis Vuitton luggage, meet the girls at Chick-Fil-A and we were off for a fun 2 days in MIA!
