Just because Labor Day is this weekend doesn’t mean you have to pack up your whites and forget about them till next year. I LOVE these jeans from Lilly Pulitzer and you can bet I’ll be wearing them into fall. Since it’s still summer I paired them with a lightweight striped pullover and added my favorite flats for a bit of a nautical look but I cant wait to wear them with browns and black when the weather starts to turn. You might want to stay away from an all white look after Labor Day, but don’t pack away your white pants just yet, especially a great pair of white denim!
We had a whirlwind of a weekend in D.C with my husband’s side of the family but it was so much fun and I still cant believe some of the things we got to do and see. My brother in-law works on Capitol Hill and my sister-in-law works at the White House so between the two of them we had some pretty incredible experiences! If you don’t want to read about what we did you can scroll to the bottom to shop what I wore throughout the weekend.
We kicked of our weekend with a private tour of the Capitol which included a visit to Speaker Ryan’s balcony which over looks the National Mall and Washington Monument. We also got a peak inside GOP House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s office. One of my favorite Americana artists is Steve Penley and several of his works were in McCarthy’s office. My favorite was President Lincoln which sits behind his desk. I also loved the gigantic painting in their meeting room called Delaware- the only way they could get it into the building was through a window! After our Capitol tour the cousins were able to visit Vice President Pence’s office. We weren’t allowed to take any pictures but it was incredible to see where he works and small details like his desk phone which has speed dials such as the Situation Room, Oval Office and Royal Crown. We were also planning on seeing the West Wing, but due to August Renovations, we weren’t able to go in. We took a walk along the drive way and made small talk with some Secret Service guys! We did get to visit the White House during after hours and were able to go bowling in the Truman Bowling Alley. It was a bucket list experience that I didn’t even know should be on my bucket list! It was so much fun and to be in the same space as past presidents and congressional leaders was so amazing.
On Saturday we took a public tour of the White House and it was wonderful to get a peak inside such a historical house. If you’re ever in the D.C area I highly recommend it!
We ended our weekend with Sunday Brunch and celebrating the life of Erik’s Aunt and Uncle Monday Morning. They were laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery and it was a remarkable service. So incredible to see all the men and women who gave their lives for our country and it truly gives you a whole new perspective of how blessed we are to live in a country with such freedoms. This is another must visit place if you’re ever in the area!
